Broadwater Green was once reputed to be the largest village green in the country, it has, however lost land to twentieth century road widening schemes.
These old cottages in Broadwater Street East have survived the ravages of twentieth century development, many of their contemporaries did not.
The Old Rectory. It was to here that an angry mob assembled to interrupt the Rector’s tithe feast in November 1830. The protestors were part of the “Swing” protests and riots that swept across southern England during a time of technological change and high unemployment.
